Nursing Home Contractures

No Excuse for Nursing Home Negligence Leading to Contractures

Nursing home negligence or abuse can be difficult to prove when the elderly victim or disabled person cannot communicate effectively or has died. This has never stopped our law firm from mounting a strong case against a nursing home that has caused our client or their loved one serious injury.

We Know Nursing Home Law

We have a special understanding of issues of mobility and what can happen if nursing home residents are not treated with appropriate, qualified standards of care. When residents of nursing homes and long term care facilities are frail, they have limited mobility. Weakened muscles and brittle bones make it hard for them to get the exercise they need.

If they are not frequently repositioned or not positioned properly in their beds, wheelchairs or chairs, they can suffer from contractures or other serious injury.

When a Contracture Could Have Been Prevented

A contracture is a condition in which the body starts to contract inward and stiffen into position. It is a preventable condition — providing that the nursing home staff employ appropriate treatment to prevent contractures. Simple measures such as a staff member moving all joints daily prevent or greatly decrease this condition.

Full, Aggressive and Determined Investigation of Liability

If you suspect that your loved one has received negligent care, we have the resources, the experience and the commitment to fully investigate. We ask questions such as:

  • Was there frequent repositioning?
  • Was the bed or the wheelchair modified appropriately?
  • Was there enough (regular) evaluation done on your loved one?
  • Were cushioning devices provided or were other preventive measures taken?
  • Were the staff adequately trained and supervised?
  • Was appropriate care taken to prevent contractures or other serious conditions such as bed sores?

Our lawyer has been handling primarily nursing home neglect and abuse matters since 2000, and she has been in the legal practice since 1990. She is actively involved in legal committees and elder law groups. She understands elder law. She knows how to investigate and get to the bottom of troubling situations and find the truth.
